Therrin J. Eber is a Birmingham-based lighting and scenic designer, educator, and production leader whose work spans theatre, opera, dance, concerts, and special events. Originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana, he has built a career creating visually bold, collaborative work for companies and festivals across the country.

His work has been seen at New York City Center, the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, Opera Western Reserve, Summer Music Theatre Experience, the Athenaeum Center in Chicago, Theatre Tuscaloosa, Opera Louisiane, Druid City Opera, Opera Birmingham, Alabama Ballet, Magnificat Performing Arts, Red Mountain Theatre, and performing arts institutions throughout the country.

Selected credits include Machinal Off-Broadway; Ragtime, Anything Goes, Anastasia, and Big Fish at Theatre Tuscaloosa; Pagliacci, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Madama Butterfly, and The Barber of Seville at Opera Louisiane; Murder on the Orient Express, Cabaret, Freaky Friday, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, and Dead Man’s Cell Phone at UAB; and Bonnie and Clyde with Alabama Ballet. His concert work has supported artists including Béla Fleck, Robert Earl Keen, The Temptations, The Four Tops, and The Manhattan Transfer.

Therrin is an Assistant Professor and Head of Design and Technology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he also serves as Production Manager. He teaches courses in scenic and lighting design, drafting, technology, and production leadership while mentoring emerging designers, technicians, and theatre artists. 

​

He holds an M.F.A. in Scenic and Lighting Design from the University of Alabama and a B.A. in Theatre Design, Technology, and Directing from Purdue University Fort Wayne. He is an Associate Member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, a member of both USITT and SETC, and serves as Vice President of the Alabama Conference of Theatre.

Therrin brings curiosity, preparation, humor, and a collaborative spirit to every project. He believes the strongest work is visually compelling, technically thoughtful, and created in a room where people feel respected, supported, and excited to make something together.

When he is not in a theatre, Therrin enjoys cooking with his wife, Sara, usually with more ambition than counter space.​​​
